Q1 what is the difference between hypnosis and hypnotherapy?

Let's take the mystery out of hypnosis it’s a very pleasant, relaxed state of mind and body, its similar to the state that one goes in when we are just about to go to sleep, however different in some ways, as the mind is open and receptive to suggestions then awake. You probably go through this state at least once a day, whether you're daydreaming, watching a movie, falling asleep, or reading a book (or falling asleep from reading a book ) Hypnosis is a very simple and naturally occurring process or state depending on how you look at it. To help you understand how hypnosis actually works, consider two alternative states of mind - the first state is the conscious mind when your thoughts are occupied with what is going on in a very conscious way, in other words, you are very aware of what you are thinking. The second state is the unconscious mind in which things are running automatically. You are thinking about things but perhaps aren't consciously aware of what you are thinking. This is the state in which decisions are made which affect your beliefs and your emotions. Talking about personal issues can be helpful but does not always lead to a solution when in a conscious state. Deeper insights can be gained using altered states of consciousness achieved during the hypnotherapy. While deeply relaxed and focusing on a particular issue, a client may more easily find a lateral solution or a new insight to an old and persistent problem. Hypnotherapists use words that bring about deep relaxation and an altered state of consciousness, also known as a trance. A person in a deeply focused state is unusually responsive to an idea or image, Positive suggestions can be used to help you change habitual behaviors you may have been unable to change on your own, used properly and professionally is simply a way of helping you make the right decisions and develop the right beliefs for you, thereby helping you to 'feel' better and to get better day to day results. Maybe this helps you to understand and find out what your false beliefs are (i.e. what is holding you back) and rework them so you can move forward. Hypnotherapy can provide a quick and cost-effective way to resolve issues and get on with living a full, abundant, and harmonious life. Deep relaxation is healthy for the mind. However, this altered state of awareness can also be used in several other ways to improve your quality of life.

Q2 How are you different from the rest of the therapists out there and how can you help me?

There are many hypnotherapists out there. Here’s a short analysis as to what makes my approach unique:

Accreditation: Many hypnotherapists don’t hold a government-accredited qualification  I do. I graduated from the “The Academy of Hypnotic Science” in Melbourne A.H.S  is the ONLY Registered Organisation in Victoria that is Accredited by the Australian National Training Authority, Victorian Registration & Qualifications Authority, and The Commonwealth Department of Education, Science & Training, to provide Accredited Diploma Level qualifications in Clinical Hypnotherapy. I am a Member and Graduate of the Academy of Hypnotic Science with recognized and accredited qualifications.

Guarantee: If you complete any of my programs in full and are unsatisfied with the results I will continue to work with you FREE OF CHARGE until you ARE satisfied, so basically you can say to yourself that I have taken away all your risk.

Specialization: When I discovered the profound results of hypnosis and NLP ( Neuro-Linguistic Programming)  with my clients, I immediately realized the potentials that the combination of these two disciplines offered, and since then I never ceased investigating them and bringing his personal contributions in the field. I am a certified clinical hypnotherapist and an NLP Master Practioner. I specialize in Weight loss, Anxiety, Depression, Phobias Self-esteem, and Psychosomatic illness. Having these as an area of expertise I can ensure you a pleasant and enjoyable experience and lasting results in a short period of time.

Structured programs: Years of refining and practicing techniques in various modalities of hypnosis in Australia, Europe, and Asia has enabled me to design powerful hypnotherapy programs that get results that last.

Service created for individual needs: Your needs always come first. Hypnotherapy should be tailored to you, the individual. No two problems, and certainly no two people, however similar, are the same. I provide individually tailored therapy and Settle for nothing less than personalized service for your challenges. This individualized approach requires complete history-taking. It is of course impossible in the short time available for the hypnotherapist to learn everything about you. But I will gather as many relevant details of your presenting problem, your family situation, important life events, health condition, fears, likes, and dislikes, etc. However, you only discuss an issue that you feel totally comfortable with and can refuse to answer any question at any time.

Proven track record of results: The best criterion is satisfied clients and most of my clients come from referrals.I am happy to share case studies and references that demonstrate a record of success in many different areas on your request whilst keeping the past successful client's privacy.

Many clients ask themselves the following questions before they make an appointment.

Will the therapist be genuinely interested in my problems? Would I feel welcome? Will I be attended to on time? Will I feel accepted? Will he treat me with respect? Will he ask a lot about me? Will he be genuinely interested in helping me? Will I feel safe and secure in his office? Will he really listen? Is he knowledgeable?

I have considered all of the above questions before I entered the practice and you can feel assured that I will work with you to your total satisfaction. However, some people might say that there is no 100% fool-proof method of selecting the right hypnotherapist for your challenges, any more than there is a guaranteed way to select the right lawyer, doctor, accountant, or plumber. A doctor may refer you to a well-reputed colleague or to his or her own hypnotherapist. However, there can be no guarantee. Personality factors, their perception of your problems, or differing ideologies may interfere with rapport. The same is true for referrals by family or friends. Above all, do not be misled by reputation alone. A great reputation in the therapy field is not always based on competence. Sometimes it is fed by publicity and by professional colleagues who have a personal liking for a particular therapist, especially if he or she devotes a lot of time to their organization's interests. The colleagues may be impressed by that therapist's speeches, self-confidence, and self-promotion. But do they personally know any successfully treated clients?

I believe In a truly therapeutic relationship you are heard, accepted unconditionally, understood, and guided to strengthen your inner resources. The hypnotherapist is your ally. Not your friend. Not your business partner. Not your guru. And certainly not your lover, respectful hypnotherapists do not snap their fingers at you, nor speak in a condescending manner. They treat you with the unconditional positive regard that you deserve. After all, their business depends on you, and others like you, who seek a better life.

NOTE:  A person using hypnosis should practice within his or her professional competence. Thus a dentist who relaxes her dental patients with hypnosis has no business engaging in psychotherapy unless she has also been trained in that field. Responsible therapists use hypnosis as a tool and are trained at accredited institutes. Thus, if you are consulting a physician who is using hypnosis to help you control pain, presumably she will have pharmaceutical alternatives with which to help you should the hypnotherapy not work well. But if the doctor is using hypnosis to help you deal better with a disastrous relationship, she is helpless if the hypnotherapy does not work well - unless she has taken special training in couples counseling.

Q3 Will, I know what is going on while I am hypnotized?

Absolutely!  Hypnosis has nothing to do with being unconscious in any way.  You hear everything, remember everything, and know exactly what’s going on the entire time.  You are always in control. It is a completely natural state of mind.  Although you may not have been formally hypnotized before, you have experienced this state of mind many times. It is simply a very comfortable and natural state of mind that we enter into and then come back out of.

Q4 My Mind is too Strong to be Hypnotised?

Great! If you have a really strong mind then it works in your favor. You will be able to put yourself in hypnosis so easily. Because all hypnosis is self-hypnosis it's you who decides whether to go into a hypnotic state or not - I simply help you find that state in the first place by allowing you to follow my suggestions. Hypnosis is a safe and natural form of relaxation - once you're in hypnosis, I can start utilizing "hypnotherapy" to help you. In fact, hypnosis is something that your body and mind learn to do and the more you do it, the better you'll be at it.

Q5 How will I feel when I come out of a consultation?

People generally report feeling like they have come out of asleep, feeling very relaxed and rested. Since hypnosis is a natural state of mind, clients are often surprised that they hear every word. Unless one enters a deeper state or at least a medium state, you may not "feel" any different than when relaxing in your favorite easy chair with a good book. One may feel quite mellow, and may feel light (or weightless), or very heavy as if sinking into the chair. If one enters a really deep state, the feeling may be euphoric for some, or almost like being intoxicated without the side effects. In a light state, it is entirely possible for a client to believe that he or she was not hypnotized. So it is important for a Hypnotherapist to know what state is suitable for the client to achieve good results.

Q6 How do I know I can even be hypnotized?

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis so anyone with the desire, ability to focus their attention, and willingness to follow acceptable suggestions can quickly enter hypnosis. However, some people find it easier to relax than others. By the same token, some people are able to go into hypnosis more quickly and more deeply than others. Most people can go into at least a light trance and with most hypnotherapeutic goals that are enough so therefore everyone can benefit from hypnotherapy to some extent. You have probably been in a state of hypnosis many times throughout your life. Have you ever driven to a shopping center and then realized that you have almost no recall of the journey? Or maybe you were sitting in a classroom and you missed everything the teacher was saying because you were daydreaming about what you were going to do after the class? In both of these examples, you are in a trance state. This is a natural, normal state that we all go in and out of, throughout the course of each day. And just like daydreaming, you are aware of your surroundings when you are under hypnosis, only it’s as though you don’t care, or simply aren’t paying attention. In fact, it is normal to remember everything that happens during the session.

Q7 If I say something to the hypnotherapist will it be kept confidential?

Absolutely. All your personal details and therapy will be kept strictly confidential between you and I. We take confidentiality very seriously. The hypnotherapist is bound by the same protocols as any other therapist and unless there are exceptional circumstances everything said will be kept within the confines of the therapy room.

Q8 Will, I tell all my secrets when I am hypnotized, and will I do anything against my will?

If there is something that you do not wish to share with the therapist for whatever reason, then you do not have to. During your session, you have control to say if something is private and you would rather not discuss it. Hypnosis is not a truth serum! You can rest assured anything you DO say during a session is kept confidential. Now, This is a common misconception about hypnosis. Nobody can be hypnotized against their will. Hypnosis is not about control by the hypnotist. It is about working together so that the client can be empowered to create change in his or her life. Nobody can be forced to do anything against their will. The 'control' misconception appears to originate from stage hypnosis which funnily enough also involves people doing exactly what they want to be doing.

Q9 I have seen stage shows where a person who was hypnotized did a lot of crazy and silly things.  Will that happen to me?

Absolutely not. When a person goes up on the stage to participate in an entertainment show of hypnosis, they have a certain preconceived idea in mind. They know that they are going to be asked to do a lot of silly things and they agree to that at some level of their mind. If someone brought a participant from a stage hypnosis show to my office for some clinical purpose, they would not respond to any of the suggestions that they had responded to when they were in the entertainment setting nor would I do that from an ethical and professional point of view. The context in which the hypnosis is taking place in the clinical setting and the understood purpose of the hypnosis in the client's mind always determines the type of responses that can be elicited. You can not be caused to do anything in hypnosis that you would not ordinarily do in your ordinary life. And, of course, in a clinical setting, all suggestions would pertain precisely to the goal of you gaining more control in your life and accomplishing the changes you are seeking help for.

Q10 What is the success rate of hypnotherapy?

There is no treatment, conventional or alternative, that has a 100 percent success rate with all of the population. However, most of my clients who complete my hypnotherapy programs in full enjoy successful and lasting results. Let me give you an example of my quit smoking clients. Smoking cessation is perhaps the number one requested reason for getting hypnotized hypnosis CAN help a smoker to give up the habit. The real question is, "but for how long"? Most all smokers want to believe that "getting hypnotized" will somehow guarantee that they can avoid the habit forever, For some clients, they can achieve that in one session. The remaining may go back to smoking at any point in-between. Consequently, I recommend that a smoker consider a course of hypnosis treatment in two stages. Firstly to reach the point where you can kick the habit as soon as possible. Up the road, consider returning for an "oil change" or "50,000 km tune-up" reinforcement session should the urge to smoke return.  Over the past years, I've gotten the most success recommending an initial one and a half-hour session, followed within the first 72 hours with a follow-up session and then again in a week later or as needed. A combination of using hypnosis along with counseling sometimes proves to be most effective for some.

Dr Alfred A. Barrios (PhD) conducted a study for the Psychotherapy Magazine (Volume 7, Issue #1) to investigate the effectiveness of Hypnotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Psychoanalysis (Psychology).

The results he uncovered astonished the clinical community…

After 600 sessions of Psychotherapy, there was a mere 38% success rate. After only 22 sessions of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, there was a 72% success rate. However, after just 6 sessions of Hypnotherapy, there was a whopping 93% success rate! You must be committed to wanting to change. The hypnotherapist cannot MAKE you do something you do not really want to do in the first place. But as long as you genuinely want to change, and are ready to change, but need some help to do so, then this type of hypnotherapy can help you to achieve those changes easily. (Sometimes where years of other therapy has failed.)
